A Godfather music box set with baguette-cut gems
The Jacob & Co. Opera Godfather Baguette, reference OP820.40.AC.UA.A, in an 18-carat rose gold and sapphire crystals case, 49 mm across and 20 mm high. Its 18-carat rose gold and smoked sapphire dial is set with 60 baguette-cut red sapphires, on a black alligator leather strap with an 18-carat rose gold deployant clasp. This version is a pièce unique.
Jacob & Co. made this watch under a partnership with Paramount Pictures, which gave it access to The Godfather’s name, imagery and music. The 49 mm case carries elements from the film. A miniature figure of Don Vito Corleone sits at the centre. The puppeteer strings from the poster are engraved on the music box cover, which is shaped like a piano, and a violin-shaped crank refers to Nino Rota’s soundtrack. The Baguette is the high jewellery version, with invisibly set baguette-cut gems.
Hand-wound calibre JCFM04 has 658 components and a 50-hour power reserve. The crank at 3 o’clock winds it. At the press of a pusher, a music box plays the film’s main theme for 30 seconds while the whole movement turns on its axis. The off-centre time dial counter-rotates at the same speed, so it stays upright.
