A second time zone on split flaps
The Jacob & Co. Epic SF24 Tourbillon, reference ES102.40.NS.LG.B, in an 18-carat rose gold case, 45 mm across and 13.65 mm high at the centre. Its black grid-pattern dial has rose gold hour markers, on a black alligator leather strap with an 18-carat rose gold and titanium deployant buckle.
The dial pattern is a grid in place of city names, and the time zone indications are black PVD.
Jacob & Co. built this travel watch around a split-flap display, the kind of board once used in train stations and airports. The second time zone sits in a tubular extension of the case, in a wide sapphire tube. One set of flaps carries 24 reference cities and the other shows the time in the chosen city. The crown at 4 o’clock sets local time, and moving it also moves the second time zone. A pusher on the side of the extension steps both flap displays together.
Self-winding calibre JCAA03 has 528 components and a 42-hour power reserve. The flying tourbillon is off-centre and turns once a minute. Its carriage is held only from below, so there is no upper bridge. A wheel, visible through an opening on the dial, links the case extension to the base movement. This version is limited to 101 pieces.
