A traveller’s watch with a split-flap second time zone
The Jacob & Co. Epic SF24, reference ES101.40.AE.AC.A, in an 18-carat rose gold case, 45 mm across, 13.65 mm high at the centre and 16.70 mm high on the second time zone display. It has a black opaline and sunray-finished dial with rose gold hour markers, on a black alligator strap with an 18-carat rose gold deployant buckle.
The time zone indications are black DLC and the skeletonised rose gold hands have tips filled with SuperLumiNova.
SF stands for split flap, the display boards once common in train stations and airports. Jacob & Co. built this watch for frequent travellers and says many GMT watches look alike and offer little function. The second time zone is housed in a case extension, inside a wide sapphire tube, and shows a reference city and the time there.
One set of flaps is printed with 24 reference cities and the other with the digits that tell the time. A pusher on the side of the tubular extension advances both. The crown at 4 o’clock sets the local time, and moving it also moves the second time zone. Self-winding calibre JCAA02 has 473 components and a 48-hour power reserve. This version is limited to 101 pieces.
