A tin of caviar, set in baguette-cut stones
The Jacob & Co. Caviar Tourbillon, reference CV310.40.AB.AA.A, in an 18-carat rose gold case, 44 mm across and 15.85 mm high. Its 18-carat rose gold dial is invisibly set with 121 baguette-cut orange sapphires, on a brown alligator leather strap with an 18-carat rose gold folding clasp.
The case, crown and clasp are set with orange sapphires, while the movement keeps its brilliant-cut diamonds.
Jacob & Co. describes the Caviar Tourbillon as a recreation of a tin of caviar newly opened, its grains packed so tightly that they turn square. Baguette-cut stones fill the case and dial in the same way. Jacob & Co. chose the baguette cut because round gems cannot fill a space entirely. The baguette-cut stones are invisibly set, so no prongs or metal break the surface.
Self-winding calibre JCAA43 has 216 components and a 42-hour power reserve. Its one-minute flying tourbillon is seen through an opening in the dial and has no upper bridge, so the carriage is held from its base only. Through the sapphire caseback the bridges and the openworked rotor are set with brilliant-cut diamonds. This version is limited to 18 pieces.
