Gems packed like caviar in a 47 mm case
The Jacob & Co. Caviar Tourbillon, reference CV211.45.AB.AA.A, in an 18-carat rose gold case, 47 mm across and 15.85 mm high. Its 18-carat rose gold dial is invisibly set with 121 angel-cut yellow sapphires (≈9.12 ct.), on a brown alligator leather strap with an 18-carat rose gold folding clasp.
Jacob & Co. built this watch on the look of a freshly opened tin of caviar, where tightly packed grains form one smooth surface. It uses the invisible setting technique, so no prongs or metal show between the stones and the surface stays continuous.
Calibre JCAA43 is self-winding and regulated by a one-minute flying tourbillon, seen through an opening in the dial. The carriage is held only from its base, so it has no upper bridge. Jacob & Co. says self-winding is an unusual choice for it. Here the openworked rotor and the bridges are gem-set and can be seen through the sapphire caseback. This version is limited to 18 pieces.
