A W16 engine block in sapphire
The Jacob & Co. Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon, reference BU240.95.AA.AA.A, in an 18-carat rose gold, white ceramic, and sapphire crystal case, 57.8 x 43.8 mm and 21.6 mm high. Its dial has blue indices and a blue “EB” logo, on a white openworked rubber strap with an 18-carat rose gold deployant clasp. This version is limited to 6 pieces.
The skeleton hands have blue and luminescent tips. The crowns and pusher are white ceramic, and the caseback combines 18-carat rose gold, white ceramic and sapphire crystal.
Jacob & Co. and Bugatti have worked together since 2019, and this watch is built around the Bugatti Chiron. The case takes its shape from the car’s horseshoe grille, quarter glass and headlights. Its automaton is a W16 engine block cut from one piece of transparent sapphire. At the press of a button the 16 pistons move up and down in their cylinders, driven by a single-block crankshaft, for an animation of 15 seconds.
Hand-wound calibre JCAM37 has 578 components and a 60-hour power reserve, shown on a fuel gauge-style indicator at 9 o’clock. Its flying tourbillon turns once a minute and is tilted by 30 degrees, which Jacob & Co. says increases the benefit of the tourbillon. Four-coiled springs act as shock absorbers, and a tubular structure frames the tilted tourbillon.
