A solar system on the wrist
The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon Baguette, reference AT800.30.BD.BB.C, in an 18-carat white gold and sapphire crystal case, 50 mm across and 25 mm high. Its titanium dial has an 18-carat white gold base dial set with 257 blue sapphires (≈8.27 ct), on a blue alligator strap with a deployant buckle. This version is limited to 9 pieces.
In this version the gold is white, and the base dial carries blue sapphires in place of multicolour stones.
Jacob Arabo turned his interest in space into the Astronomia concept in 2014, modelling a planetary system at wristwatch scale. A vertical platform with four arms rises from the base dial and turns on its own axis, and that motion drives the movement’s functions and indications. The platform completes a revolution in 10 minutes.
Hand-wound calibre JCAM18 has 365 components, 42 jewels and a 60-hour power reserve. A triple-axis flying tourbillon hangs from one arm: its first axis turns in 60 seconds, its second in 2.5 minutes, and the platform adds the third. On another arm, a differential gear system turns the hour and minute dial against the platform at the same speed, so the time stays upright.
