Overview
The entry to the Convexe collection
The Greubel Forsey Balancier 3, Titanium Gris execution, in titanium, 41.5 mm and 13.55 mm high, in the curved Convexe case, water-resistant to 50 m. Hours, minutes, small seconds and power reserve on a manually wound three-bridge movement with a 12.6 mm balance; 88 timepieces, 2024 to 2028.
The Balancier 3 is the brand's answer to a question it says took almost 20 years to take on: a Greubel Forsey at a wearable diameter and a lower price, still finished entirely by hand. It joins the Convexe collection in a 41.5 mm titanium case as what the brand calls its most affordable watch, made in 88 pieces over 2024 to 2028 as Titanium and Titanium Gris; a Baby Blue execution sits beside them, its own run not published.
The movement is arranged around three bridges: one over the barrels, one over the balance, and a wide openworked one that carries the hour and minute hands and reaches across to the small seconds. Two fast-rotating barrels in series, each turning once in 3.2 hours, give 72 hours — three full days — of chronometric reserve; the watch runs longer, but outside the rate the brand specifies. The 12.6 mm variable-inertia balance, poised by six gold mean-time screws, sits between 4 and 6 o'clock, and the small seconds at 8 o'clock is a fixed pointer over a hand-satined disc that turns beneath it. The power reserve is read on the case back, a first for the Convexe watches. The case is curved on both faces, and its lugs have no screws, which the brand notes as another first.
For collectors
Three things mark this watch off from the rest of the collection: the price, which the brand describes as its lowest; the screwless lugs; and the reserve on the back. The finishing brief did not change — the bridges keep the curved polished surfaces, polished bevels, sharp internal angles and hand-polished screws of the dearer watches — and the brand's argument is that the saving came from a simpler layout, not from the hand.
Key details
Design and engineering
- Three-bridge layoutBarrel bridge, balance bridge and the wide hand bridge each carry the brand's finishes — curved polished surface, polished bevels, hand-polished screws — and each has internal angles and a curved profile that make the hand work slow.
- Series barrelsTwo fast barrels coupled in series, one turn in 3.2 hours, decorated with the rotating graphic the brand uses across the Convexe line. Three days of chronometric reserve, shown on the back.
- Variable-inertia balance12.6 mm across, regulated by six gold mean-time screws on the rim rather than by a regulator index.
- Small secondsA fixed indicator at 8 o'clock over a rotating hand-satined disc, so the seconds read as movement of the surface rather than of a hand.
- Convexe caseProfiled on the display side and the back, so it follows the wrist; the dial-side curvature dips toward each strap end. 41.5 mm and 13.55 mm high in titanium, water-resistant to 50 m; the lugs carry no screws.
