Titalyt®: the titanium case, hardened
The F.P. Journe élégante 48 mm in Titalyt®-treated titanium set with 418 diamonds, reference ELHT, on the anthracite rubber strap. Flat Tortue case, 48 × 40 mm, 7.95 mm high, luminescent white dial, blued steel hands. Electromechanical calibre 1210, which stops its hands after 35 minutes at rest.
The Titalyt® 48 mm élégante with its Flat Tortue case set with 418 brilliant-cut diamonds, VS1 F/G, about 1.06 carat. The dimensions, the luminescent white dial, the blued steel hands and calibre 1210 are unchanged, and it was offered on the same ten coloured rubber straps with a folding clasp.
The élégante is F.P. Journe's electromechanical line, eight years in development, with autonomy as its purpose: 8 to 10 years in daily use and up to 18 in standby. The 48 mm case carries the same movement for men's wrists, in the brand's words, or for women who prefer a larger watch. This version puts it in grade 5 titanium treated with Titalyt®, a process F.P. Journe describes as electro-plasma oxidation of the titanium, which raises its hardness and its resistance to wear and corrosion and gives the case its own colour.
A mechanical motion detector, an inertia weight visible on the dial at 4:30, tells the processor whether the watch is being worn. After 35 minutes without movement the gears, rotors and hands stop while the processor goes on counting time; at the first movement the hands run to the correct time by the shorter route, forwards or backwards. A patented two-rotor motor drives the hands. The mechanical parts are made by F.P. Journe and the electronics in Switzerland, around a microprocessor created for the watch.

Design and engineering
- StandbyStopping the gears, rotors and hands is what makes the autonomy possible. With only the processor keeping time, consumption is low enough for up to 18 years in standby, against 8 to 10 in daily use.
- Automatic re-settingOn restart the hands take the shortest path, clockwise or anti-clockwise, to the time the processor has kept, so the display catches up without the wearer resetting it.
- Two-rotor motorPatented, driving the hands through a gear train made by F.P. Journe. The time is set with the crown in its second position, and the seconds stop while it is pulled.
- Titalyt® caseGrade 5 titanium in the registered Flat Tortue® shape, 48 × 40 mm and 7.95 mm high, oxidised by electro-plasma for hardness and resistance to wear and corrosion. Sapphire crystal case back, screw-down crown, water resistance to 30 m.
- DialLuminescent white centre within an outer dial of screwed steel elements, blued steel hands. F.P. Journe likens the centre to white mother-of-pearl; at night the hands read against it as silhouettes.
