The five-day Octa
The F.P. Journe Octa Réserve de Marche Boutique Edition in 18K 6N gold with a blackened gold and whitened guilloché silver dial and blued and 5N gilt steel hands. Self-winding calibre 1300.3 with off-centre hours and minutes, small seconds at 4:30, large date and power reserve at 7:30; 10.6 mm high.
F.P. Journe gives this Boutique Edition's production as 2008 to 2013. It sets a blackened gold and whitened guilloché silver dial in an 18K 6N gold case, the black-dial boutique execution the brand offered across its models apart from the striking watches.
The Réserve de Marche is the Octa at its simplest: hours and minutes, small seconds, large date and the reserve indicator. F.P. Journe presents it as a world premiere, in its account the first mechanical movement with automatic winding and a power reserve of over 120 hours, and the first automatic to keep precision timekeeping for five days off the wrist. The brand calls the Octa its most evolved construction, one chassis that takes very different mechanisms without changing size.
Journe's route to the long reserve was the mainspring itself. Adding a wheel to the train would have stretched the running time but left little energy at the balance, forcing a smaller, less stable one; instead he extended the spring's development and laid it on the same level as the gear train and escapement. The low torque lets the rotor wind it quickly: one and a half hours on a Chappuis cyclotest for over 5 days' running, by his figure. The off-centre rotor winds in one direction.
For collectors
The reserve indicator at 7:30 is the reason for the model. F.P. Journe separates the 120 hours it claims for precision timekeeping from a total autonomy of 160 ± 10 hours, so the five days of the brand's claim are not the whole of the running time.

Design and engineering
- One long mainspringLengthening the spring's development, instead of adding a wheel to the train, keeps enough energy at the balance for it to stay a full-size, stable oscillator across five days.
- One-direction windingThe off-centre rotor winds in one direction. At full wind the mainspring slips in its barrel, so the rotor cannot overwind it.
- Free-sprung balanceFour inertia weights set the rate, with a flat microflamed Anachron spring, a Nivatronic collet laser-welded to it, a mobile stud holder and a pinned stud. In-line lever escapement, 15-tooth wheel.
- Three-position crownPosition 2 sets the date by turning in opposite directions; position 3 sets the time. The date changes instantaneously.
