Two gold dials
The F.P. Journe Lune Boutique Edition, reference LN, in 18K 6N gold with blackened gold dials, gold numerals surfaced with a diamond tool and 5N gilt steel hands. 10.7 mm high, self-winding on calibre Octa 1300.3 in 18K rose gold, with an off-centre hour dial, large date, moon phase and retrograde power reserve.
The Boutique Edition, produced between 2016 and 2024, has blackened gold dials with gold numerals surfaced with a diamond tool and 5N gilt steel hands, in an 18K 6N gold case.
The Lune received the Best Men's Watch prize at the Geneva Grand Prix d'Horlogerie in 2003. F.P. Journe presents this version as a new Lune, with a clearer reading of the time and a date twice as large. It is built on the Octa calibre 1300.3, the brand's automatic movement in 18K rose gold, which F.P. Journe describes as the first automatic movement to keep precision time for more than 120 hours.
Both dials are 18K gold. The off-centre hour dial, its gold numerals finished with a diamond tool, is ringed by a polished steel circle screwed to the main dial, a construction the brand treats as one of its signatures. The main dial carries the large date aperture, the moon phase driven by its own wheel train, and a retrograde reserve on a 120-hour scale. The Octa behind it winds through an off-centre 22K gold rotor turning one way on a self-locking ball bearing, and runs for an effective 160 ± 10 hours.
For collectors
Journe's argument for the Octa is against the usual way of making a watch run for days: adding a wheel to the train and fitting a smaller balance to spare the weakened energy. He lengthened the spring instead, and F.P. Journe's figures show the result on a four-weight free-sprung balance: amplitude of 280° dial-up at 12 hours and 220° at 90 hours.
