One barrel for two balances
The F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance Boutique Edition, reference RQ, in 18K 6N gold with the blackened gold dial and whitened guilloché silver sub-dials. Calibre 1520 in 18K rose gold: one barrel, a differential and two remontoirs d'égalité driving two balances in resonance. 10.8 mm high.
This Boutique Edition of the calibre 1520 construction has a blackened gold dial with whitened guilloché silver sub-dials, blued and 5N gilt steel hands and an 18K 6N gold case. F.P. Journe produced it between 2021 and 2024 and sold it only in its boutiques and Espaces.
F.P. Journe presented its first Résonance wristwatch in 2000 and gave it the registered name Résonance®. This construction runs on calibre 1520. F.P. Journe traces the principle back to Christiaan Huygens in the 17th century and to Antide Janvier and Abraham-Louis Breguet in the 18th, and describes its watch as the only wristwatch to use natural resonance with no mechanical transmission between the balances.
Calibre 1520 powers both halves of the movement from a single mainspring barrel. A differential on the first wheel, visible at the centre of the dial, divides the barrel's energy between two secondary trains, and each train ends in a remontoir d'égalité that rearms every second. Each escapement is therefore driven by a force that stays close to constant, which the brand rates as isochronism over 28 hours. There is no mechanical transmission between the two balances.
For collectors
Calibre 1520 is rated at 42 hours in all but at 28 ± 2 hours of what F.P. Journe calls efficient running time, the period in which the remontoirs keep the force constant. The amplitude figures make the same point: above 260° dial-up both at full wind and after 24 hours. The crown at 2 o'clock and the reset at 4 belong to the redesigned case of this calibre.

Design and engineering
- DifferentialMounted on the first wheel and visible at the dial centre, it passes the barrel's energy independently to the two secondary trains, so one mainspring serves both balances.
- Two remontoirs d'égalitéA constant-force device with a one-second cycle sits on each train. The escapement is driven from its small rearmed spring rather than directly from the mainspring, which is why the force it receives varies so little.
- Two balancesIndependent linear escapements with 15 teeth, free-sprung balances with four inertia weights, flat micro-flamed Anachron springs laser-pinned to Nivatronic collets.
- Crowns at 2 and 4 o'clockThe crown at 2 o'clock winds in position 0 and in position 2 sets the left dial clockwise and the right dial anti-clockwise. Pulling the crown at 4 o'clock resets both seconds.
- DisplaysAnalogue 24-hour dial on the left, 12-hour dial on the right, two small seconds at 6 o'clock, power reserve at 12.
- FinishingPartial circular graining on the base plate, Geneva waves on the bridges, polished and bevelled screw heads with chamfered slots, hand-finished steel components.
