Overview
A white case on a record that says Carbon TPT
The photograph shows a white case with blue and red lines across the bridges, a red crown and a white textile strap — the French tricolour on a white case, which is the Alexis Pinturault configuration.
The card labels the material White Carbon TPT. Carbon TPT® is made from divided carbon fibre and is black or grey; the white composite in Richard Mille’s material set is Quartz TPT®, and the brand’s own description of the Pinturault execution specifies a Quartz TPT® bezel and caseback with a Carbon TPT® caseband. Nothing is entered for the material rather than asserting which part is which on a straight-on photograph.
Card 464 is the Alexis Pinturault under its own name, and the two are flagged as probable duplicates.
Key details
Design and engineering
- What is not establishedThe label reads White Carbon TPT and Carbon TPT® is not produced in white. Richard Mille’s description of the matching execution gives a Quartz TPT® bezel and caseback over a Carbon TPT® caseband, but this photograph is straight on and does not show which part is which. Nothing is entered for the material.
- Calibre CRMA7Skeletonised automatic winding movement with hours and minutes, on 25 jewels at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), with around 50 hours (± 10%) of power reserve.
- TPT® composite constructionQuartz TPT® is built from silica threads in layers no thicker than 45 microns; Carbon TPT® from divided carbon fibres in layers a maximum of 30 microns thick. Both are oriented 45° apart from ply to ply, cured at 120°C under 6 bar and machined in-house. Silica takes colour in a way carbon does not, which is why the coloured executions in this series are silica-based composites.
- Titanium dial0.40 mm, black DLC-treated, hand-painted in blue, white and red.
- Baseplate and bridgesGrade 5 titanium. The baseplate carries a black DLC treatment, which Richard Mille specifies for rigidity and for the surface flatness the gear train requires; the bridges carry a grey DLC treatment and are satin-finished, microblasted and bevelled by hand.
- RotorCarbon TPT® and white gold, on the OneWay® winding system with ceramic ball bearings, which allows the barrel to be wound efficiently in an extra-flat calibre.
- Comfort strapEntirely seamless, non-slip and highly elastic; Richard Mille describes it as the lightest strap it has made. The complete watch weighs 32 grams with the strap.
