McLaren W1 edition on a papaya orange strap
The RM 65-01 Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph McLaren W1 was released in 2024 alongside McLaren’s W1 road car, in a limited edition of 500 pieces. The photograph shows the tonneau case in Carbon TPT® with titanium elements, orange accents throughout and a McLaren plate set into the caseband, on a papaya orange rubber strap.
Mechanically it is the standard RM 65-01: the calibre RMAC4, a skeletonised automatic split-seconds chronograph running at 36,000 vph with a rapid-winding pusher, a function selector and a variable-geometry rotor. Two details are specific to this edition. The date sits in a vertical aperture at 11 o’clock, and the function selector is operated by a pusher at the centre of the crown, with a hand at 4 o’clock indicating W, D or H.

Design and engineering
- Calibre RMAC4Skeletonised automatic winding movement with hours, minutes, seconds at 6 o’clock, date, split-seconds chronograph with a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock, function selector, rapid winding and variable-geometry rotor. It measures 31.78 × 29.98 mm by 8.69 mm thick, on 51 jewels at 36,000 vph (5 Hz), with around 60 hours (± 10%) of power reserve without the chronograph running.
- Split-seconds architectureTwo six-column wheels with a vertical clutch. Richard Mille specifies that the design largely eliminates the initial jump of the chronograph seconds hand and reduces the energy the mechanism draws.
- Movement mountingThe calibre sits on chassis mounting rubbers rather than being secured by a conventional casing ring.
- Rapid windingThe pusher at 8 o’clock rearms the barrel without using the crown, which Richard Mille specifies for restarting a watch that has stopped. The mechanism was activated thousands of times during ageing tests.
- Double bezelA satin-finished and polished grade 5 titanium bezel is topped with a second bezel in Carbon TPT®. Richard Mille records the construction as taking eight prototypes to perfect and as incorporating the brand’s thinnest titanium bezel to date, 0.50 mm at its thinnest point. The pusher protectors are microblasted and satin-finished grade 5 titanium.
